September is National Preparedness Month. So to get NYC residents pro-actively prepared for an unforeseen emergency, Notify NYC is urging residents to sign up for their official emergency notification system.
Why should I do this?
Subscribers to the Notify NYC system receive text messages, e-mails, phone calls or tweets about significant citywide events, as well as smaller events happening in their own neighborhoods. These notifications cover topics such as severe weather, school closures, subway disruptions, and traffic advisories in all areas of the city.
And the messages can be customized to suit your preferences.
Notify NYC is critical in keeping New York City residents, families, and commuters informed, and it’s completely free!
Think about it?
If you’re in New York City, why wouldn’t you want to do this??!

Small portable generator and a very long drop cord and keep frozen water bottles that you had previously filled empty 2liter soda bottles filled with water, when the power goes off these can keep your food from spoiling for up to 6extra hours by placing them in your fridge and then later they are still good for drinking water or any water use
