Nickelodeon Champions for Kids Book Drive Donation {#NickCFK #Champions4Kids}

If that is really true, then isn’t it sad that statistics prove that close to 500,000 kids in Texas aren’t being read to…

only because their parents can’t afford to buy their child a book?

I can’t imagine a childhood without books.

My children wouldn’t be able to picture a day going by without pulling out a book from their library shelves.

Honestly, I’m so thankful that we’re able to provide for them a ticket into the world of reading…

but that shouldn’t give us the license to sit smug in our happy little book bubble.

We need to give back to those less fortunate because we know the joy books bring.

That’s what makes Champions for Kids Nickelodeon Big Help Book Drive a cause worthy of embracing.

The Loot!

Once I’d done my book run to our local Walmart ,

we collected some more books from home (and others)

and managed to put together a stash of 54 books that any child would love to read.

We’d hoped to have a friend bring over her pile of books too but the change in weather has had their troop down with the flu.

Choices.

Once we had our book loot organized, we debated between donating to our local library that has some fantastic kids programs or Bunny girl’s 1st grade classroom. After taking a majority vote, we decided to donate the books to her school.

You can be sure that we had a very proud and excited 1st grader skipping to school with a few books in her backpack…

and the rest lugged along in a bag by muscle-man Dad!!

Why you should help…

Champions 4 Kids and Nickelodeon have not set this up as a a blogger exclusive project.

This is a project any family can should adopt. It’s an awesome way to get the family involved in giving back to the community, in a way that can change and impact one little mind at a time.

Game?

Let’s go!…

Shop for a few books.

Collect as many gently used books as you can.

Identify an organization to donate to…

and GIVE!

Please don’t just stop there. Help us in spreading the word…

Reading is one of my favorite past times. I admit, I do take it for granted. It’s sad that some don’t have books – thanks for helping.

Book drives and donations are so important! When my daughter outgrew her children’s books, we donated them all to her old preschool. Those kids were SO happy to get to take home their very own books!

I admit it, I am not one to read. I love my magazines, and will read short articles and such but really don’t have the patience to read a book.

What a great cause, I can’t imagine my kids not having books–like you said, they pull their books out 15 times a day! And it’s our bedtime routine to read. Thanks for sharing this post!

I know you know I’m from Texas as well so that statistic above really hit home and makes me so sad. There are children in my own daughter’s classroom who I suspect do not have books at home because at the age of 5, they can’t write their name or draw a semi-recognizable picture. It’s heartbreaking and you’ve given me a great idea! So glad you were able to make such a significant difference in the lives of the children of your community. I love Champions for Kids and all that they do!
