With Disney’s Brave hitting the theaters, little girls are egging Mom and Dad to enroll them in horse riding classes.
Kids think there’s nothing to it. You just need to wear a long gown, leave your hair loose, slip on dainty shoes and hop on. Simple as that…
Apparently there’s quite a bit to it.
To ensure your child is equipped to ride a horse, you need to get her…
- The right attire (Well fitting jodhpurs are suggested…and no, bling accessories are not advised!),
- The right riding helmet and
- The right riding boots. (I always thought the only sort of riding boots in the market were the long, glossy, leather boots. Well, an amateur rider is suggested to go in for short boots or paddocks while older, seasoned riders go in for the long boots. The paddocks are easier to break into and more comfortable…a must for a young rider who is getting used to being atop a horse.)
Sure she may not look anything like Merida on her horse but what’s important is her safety.
If you keep in mind this little ditty when you go equestrian apparel shopping, you won’t go wrong…
Comfort and protection for my dottie are key.
That’s the only way my little Merida will be safe on that horsey!
Do your kids ride horses? Do you have any helpful tips to add?
