I remember going to the local bandstand with my Grandpa for horse rides. The horse’s owner would lead the horse around the stand with a quivering bundle of nerves on top…me!
I loved going to the bandstand. I wanted to ride on a horse but once on top of the neighing, walking creature the paranoia circling the “what if I fell” thought was incredibly nauseating.
Despite all of this I STILL wanted to ride the horse!
For a child, the world of make believe is so much fun and convinces you that it’s okay to swallow a little fear to dream BIG!
I’d dream of growing up to be one of those confident riders strutting my stuff in a league of my own in the “glamorous” world of show jumping.
As a child you don’t see the hours of toil that go on behind the scenes, the worn out chaps pulled up day in and day out, the time spent maintaining a “home” for your horse and the money spent investing in the best horse equipment for your equestrian partner.
There’s a lot that goes into it all and I’m glad I grew out of my dream to be a world class rider,
Besides I don’t think I’d do all that great considering I wouldn’t want to go faster than a mere trot (faster than that is way too scary) and I wouldn’t want to attempt jumping hurdles. (Heights are not my thing and atop a horse…no way!)
I’m just content playing “horsey” for my little rider, Bunny Boo!
